Bicycles. Rotterdam. Maastunnel. Total awesomeness all around.
Well, I'm sure that I don't have to tell you that bicyclists pretty much rule the roost over here in the land of the cheese.
It's just so unbelievable that in the United States we have to give you a cookie if you promote self transportation, we have to campaign for bike trails, we have to fight for room on the road, and still- I feel like after every bike path there is just another sign that posts : "no bikes here."
The city planning of Rotterdam, Amsterdam- the whole country of the Netherlands- is such that it just doesn't seem like that big of a deal! I love that! Not to mention, it's great exercise, which would explain why so many Dutch people are so damn tall and gorgeous. Exercise in the early, formidable years REALLY pays off, let me tell you!!
So, for you New Yorkers- imagine that I live in the equivalent of Williamsburg. Like 10 years ago. It's pretty much exactly the same vibe- tons of artists all gathering together and creating a new neighborhood. Well, except that here, we get the support of the government because they believe that the arts are important. We have new galleries opening, art festivals, people are actually on waiting lists to live in this neighborhood! (Sorry, can't help but brag, it's ind of amazing what they've done here).
Now- imagine that you could take a TUNNEL into Manhattan, and it would take three minutes to get through this tunnel, and then you are outside the center of the city. It's just so simple, isn't it??? So, I say- promote a bicycle lane on the Williamsburg bridge that is SAFE and open and secure, 24/7.
Here's how I get to Rotterdam Centrum!
Going Down, going up!

And here's a little treat... a photo of the two cutest girls, rocking it Dutch style!! (Please note that the girl in front is wearing a TUTU!)
