Vintage Style in Amsterdam... for girls with big feet! Or, how modeling made me love my feet.
First of all, I love that I've been getting comments from people on my posts. Yay! Bring it on! It's nice to know that I'm not just writing for myself and my mom. (Hi, Mom!)
One of the BEST parts about coming to the Netherlands (for me) is that shoe shopping is so much fun! Do you have any idea what it's like to wear a size 10 shoe in the US? It can be a bit of a challenge! I grew up playing sports, so I wasn't really so concerned about shoe shopping. Wait, that's a total lie. I have always loved shoes- and my mother and I would buy every pair in my size, because it was hard to find shoes that fit me! I really thought I was alone. And then I went to college, and then started modeling- and realized that I was DEFINITELY not alone!
I really don't love it when I read that models are stupid, or that modeling is bad for self esteem, etc., or that models aren't "real people." While it can be a true challenge to work in this business- trust me, you learn to develop a VERY thick skin-, you also actually learn to love yourself more. Or, at least I did. Almost every girl I work with has my shoe size! Or bigger! When we go to the shoots- the sizes they have for us to wear are 9 and 10. Always! It's awesome. Now, keep in mind that I only worked as a straight size model for one summer- before I took a break and moved over to "plus" modeling. So maybe the plus girls are just wayyyy more awesome. Anyhow. That's all I have to say about THAT!
So, while I was wandering around Amsterdam last month, I found this great little store- which also happens to be online.
I LOVE VINTAGE .
They have a little store, which also is live on the Internet. And YES, they have TONS of shoes for those blessed with big feet! If you've ever shopped vintage in the States, you know that you have more luck finding a size 5.5 than a 10. So have fun... and act quick!
I picked a few of my fave items. How CUTE is the little alligator on the purse? And the shoes.... love...
