Beautiful Bathing in Style ... Wieke Somers: Badboot (Bath Boat) at the Museum Boijmans in Rotterdam
During my last week in Rotterdam, I spent the usual amount of time exploring, but the highlight was definitely when I (finally!) made it to the Museum van Beuningen... and found my dream bath tub. Dutch designers are world renowned- and, in fact, receive funding from the government so that they can develop their design talent, and they are given great respect- as you can find in a museum such as this one in Rotterdam, where you see a beautiful tub in the same halls as a Vermeer.
Wieki Somers is a Dutch designer who created the " Badboot" (bath boat). WOW. She also has a studio in Schiedam and lives in Rotterdam- just another example of the art scene in that crazy town. And, why we will always have a little home there.
Visit the Wieki Somers website to see all of her beautiful projects...

Here is the BADBOOT (Wieki Somers, 2005)
(professional shot care of the Wieke Somers website; the other photos were taken by me at the museum!)
What I also love is that she designed the OTHER piece that stood out in my mind from the museum! This was the coat rack when you walk into the museum- it is so unbelievable! It is a rotating rack that you control to get your coats with a little key... first, you pull a pulley and the hanger comes down to you.. then, you hang your coat, and it releases back up- and you secure it with your own key. Amazing.. you have to see the pics- and it won an award last year, as well!
